UOI – How we express ourselves

Central idea – Plays and drama can be created to convey messages to target specific audiences.

In English, I am delighted to continue supporting our HRT’s with the new UOI.  We will be following the line of inquiry that deals different form and functions of plays.. We will focus the messages in plays and roles of performers in plays.  At the end of this unit of study, our students will all do a “BIG WRITE”. The “BIG WRITE” will be the writing of a play script.  During the 6 weeks of the inquiry, we will focus on developing speaking and listening skills, reading skills and writing skills as well as relevant spelling, punctuation and grammar topics that will enable us to be successful with the end of unit assessment. I am also introducing a guided reading program from the start of this unit and hope to improve the students’ reading and comprehension skills.
