1819 Grade 4 – Human Body System (UOI)

For the first Unit of Inquiry, Grade 4 students will learn about Human Body System. It is under “Who We Are” transdisciplinary theme. The central idea is “Effective interactions between human body systems contribute to health”. As the tuning in activity, students identified the keywords related to the central idea and paraphrased it with their own sentence. As the first further learning, we gave a simple undertanding about what system is by asking the students to act as a human machine which working together as a system. Some of them acted as a clock, a motorcyle, or a washing machine.

After that, we created the conceptual questions; Function, Connection, and Change.

To start our first line of inquiry (how body system work), students worked on the human body puzzle in group. We provided them some main body organs then they needed to match them with their name or term. Finally, they needed to stick the organs on the blank body picture properly based on their position.

The last activity was classifying the organs into their body system, such as respiratory system, digestive system, circulatory system, muscular and skeletal system. We used Lotus Diagram as our visible thinking tool. They might find the information from the books provided in our class library or their dictionary.

At the end of the lesson, we shared them some summary about Human Body System to be filed in their notebook and read at home.
