1819 EY1 – SEL “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

In the second week of September 2018, we started the Social Emotional Learning in EY1 classes which was lead by Ibu Maria, ECE Principal. The first session was to introduce the book that inspires the SEL programme in ECE.  The book is “Have you filled a bucket today” by Carol McCloud.

The book encourages positive behaviour by using the concept of an invisible bucket to show children how easy and rewarding it is to express kindness, appreciation and love by “filling buckets”.  We also related the message from this book to our Learner Profile charts in the classes.  When we do the kind things means that we also living the Learner Profile attributes.

After listening to the story, the students were involved in a discussion and an activity of sorting out pictures of good manners.  The students could differentiate the good behaviour to do as bucket fillers and to avoid becoming bucket dippers who do the bad behaviour.

At the end of SEL sessions, the students stood up and said the Bucket Fillers Pledge together.

Bucket Fillers Pledge

I am a bucket filler.  At school, at home and everywhere.  Each and everyday.

Kind things I say.  Kind things I do.  And I say I am sorry if I ever slip.
