During our literacy lesson, EY 2 students learned to read and write double vowel words through various activities. First we start with shared reading a book entitled “Stuck in the Mud” after our circle time in the morning. Besides shared reading, EY 2 students also learned to read independently using our phonics book entitled “The Lost Sheep”. Then the students analyze the words in the story that consist of double vowel words. We read, write, and construct the words using apparatus.
We are working on the five pillars of kindergarten reading: understanding the relationship between sounds and words (phonetics), reading fluently, understanding what they read, expanding vocabulary, and building knowledge.
