Recognizing Sight Words

EY 1 students start to learn about sight words for English subject. The sight words that the teachers introduce are “I/you/can/see/have/like”. First, the teacher introduced the meaning of each word. Then, the students tried to make sentences using the sight words in order to find out whether they understand the meanings of all words. To make the lesson more interesting yet meaningful for the students, they participated in word games which we believe help them recognize the sight words easily. So, we ask the students to cross out and color the sight words on a big paper with lots of different words. Another game is that the teacher will shout the sight words and
the kids need to slap the correct sight words. They had so much fun in the games. Hopefully, by recognizing sight words, they will be able to read as this is one of the process in reading skills.
