On Wednesday, 13 February 2019 toddler students had a discussion about the role of a cow. The teachers asked them some questions related to a cow;
- What color is the cow?
- How many legs does the cow have?
- How does a cow sound?
- What can the cow give to us?
From the discussion they got the information that cow can give milk. More over, as the integration with fine motor skills development, they had a pouring milk activity using a jug. This activity is one of practical life exercises that is really useful for them. So the teachers started with showing the toddlers how to hold the jug and pour the milk. Then the toddlers tried to pour themselves.
What is practical life activities actually? According to Heidi Philipart, Practical Life activities are the activities of everyday life and they are involved in all aspects of life. The child observes these activities in the environment and gains knowledge through the real experience of how to accomplish life skills in a purposeful way. These activities are cultural and specific to the child’s time and place. Practical life activities help give the child a sense of being and belonging, established through participation in daily life with us.
