Let’s Buy Some Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and disease-fighting phytochemicals. Because of this, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables everyday can help reduce your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, type II diabetes and certain cancers. Toddler’s recent unit of inquiry was “How the World Works”. With the Central Idea “Animals and plants play different roles in our Lives”. In this unit they have been introduced to various kinds of plants, fruits and vegetables.

At school the toddlers observed some plants in the school garden. They also had the opportunity to eat various kinds of fruits and vegetables such as banana, papaya, apple, pineapple, spinach, carrot and many more. They transformed those fruits and vegetables into healthy breakfasts, salads and soup.

On Friday, 3 May 2019 toddlers had an excursion to GS Supermarket at Kemang Pratama. The children went to the supermarket, walking together with their friends and teachers. They were so excited to observe the fruits and vegetables by touching, counting and also mentioning the names of them.

On that day they brought some money to buy some fruits and vegetables. The children were free to choose the fruits or vegetables that they wanted to buy so most of them bought their favorite fruit. After they counted the fruits or vegetables the children put them in the plastic bag. At last they went to the cashier to pay and take them home.

The excursion ran successfully. The children and the teachers were so happy with the activities at the supermarket. Furthermore, we believe that the excursion has made some improvements to their cognitive and language skills development.
